Hi! I'm Sandy Geibel. My husband and I moved into Big Canoe almost six years ago, as full-time residents of Big Canoe. My background includes a wide variety of experiences. I was an Air Force dependent and moved often with my parents across the U.S. and overseas. I was also a Navy wife for 26 years and followed my husband around the world, living in many different places. During our travels, I served on many committees, such as Navy Relief, where I counseled families of overseas deployed sailors, helping them overcome daily challenges, both financial and emotional. I have also been president of two Navy Officer's Wives Clubs. Our clubs' committees spent a great deal of time on charitable activities. Leading a group of up to 300 women was challenging, but also a very rewarding experience. While in Saudi Arabia I was involved in scouting with both of our children. I have a degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri and post-graduate work pursuing educational specialties, such as teaching gifted and talented students. During the 26 years of my husband's naval service and 13 years after his retirement, I was employed as a teacher in schools around the world, from Saudi Arabia to Belgium to Guam, and in many stateside areas. My teaching career culminated with me teaching gifted students for 13 years at Daniell Middle School in Marietta. Since retiring from teaching and moving to Big Canoe I have worked with many wonderful people. I have served as secretary for Ridgerunners and secretary for the Big Canoe Women's Golf Association. In 2007 I served as treasurer for the Tour of Homes and this year I am co-captain of one of the houses on the Tour of Homes. I am also the co-chairperson for the 9-hole Women's Golf Association for 2008. It is an honor for me to be nominated as a member of the HOA Board in Big Canoe. I feel I can make a positive contribution to our community by serving on this board with other people who are trying to make a difference. |
