Thursday, October 25, 2007 - An announcement was made late yesterday by AmeriGas and George Thurman, representing the Big Canoe Propane Consortium, that Consortium membership has been closed until further notice.

AmeriGas has contracted for close to a million gallons of propane based on the current membership and current usage rates.  This ensures that existing members will continue to receive their propane at the price of $1.59 per gallon.  However, because of the recent significant increase in the wholesale price of propane, AmeriGas cannot purchase any additional propane at these price levels.  Thus, they can only guarantee sufficient propane at the $1.59 price to the current members.  Adding members at this point would result in insufficient supplies for the existing 650 members.

The $1.59 price will need to be renegotiated no later than the end of January 2008 (possibly earlier depending on the movement in wholesale prices).  At the time that the new price is determined, membership to the Consortium will be reopened.
