Most of our community associates the HOA with the many services and social activities that it provides Big Canoe residents. However, on many occasions throughout its history, the HOA has been the lone advocate for the homeowners. The HOA now sees its role of advocacy as its primary role. That role is emphasized in the revised HOA Bylaws, which will be posted on our website by the end of March. By becoming more engaged in civic activities, the HOA hopes to anticipate the issues most likely to affect our residents. We will then have time to respond strategically. To that end, we have increased the number of liaisons to committees and membership in organizations both within Big Canoe and in Dawson and Pickens counties. We anticipate that the relationships that we are building will be mutually beneficial, and will facilitate problem-solving in the future. Many of our board members and volunteers from our membership will regularly attend meetings, such as the Boards of Commissioner, Boards of Elections, and School Boards of both counties. Participate in HOA meetings We urge you to join the HOA. We welcome your participation. The schedule of open HOA Board meetings and contact information for directors are on the HOA website above.

In January, the HOA Board hosted a reception catered by the Sconti for the Smoke Signals staff at the Canoe Lodge. Everyone enjoyed the fine food and the company of wonderful writers who enrich our lives, and contribute to the cohesiveness of our community. The HOA thanks Carolyn Littell, Fred Shaw, and the many volunteers who organized the outstanding jazz and country western concerts on February 15 and 16. Our outdoor stage was used for this indoor event. Congratulations to Carl Deane for successfully negotiating with Amerigas to provide the best price and service for Propane Consortium members. New members can join the Consortium effective March 1. |
