The potential for an Influenza Pandemic resulting from the current Avian Flu has received extensive media coverage over the past two years. In response to this possibility, your Property Owner’s Association appointed a Pandemic Preparedness Committee (PPC) to design and assist in the implementation of a “Disaster Plan” that would attempt to minimize the consequential extensive illness and loss of life associated with a Pandemic. The primary initiative of the PPC has been an effort to inform and educate property owners.

“Avian Flu”….the coming “Pandemic”.  Remember those terms?  Seems like a bad dream that drifts into a fog of forgetfulness with time.  It has been almost exactly a year since my last pandemic newsletter and little has changed.  Both the continuing potential for the Avian Flu to be the villain that induces the next pandemic and the dismal lack of personal and community preparedness. One expert on the matter said, “The Pandemic clock is ticking, we just don’t know what time it is”.

Big Canoe Utilities has developed an Emergency Operation Plan to maintain operations to the best of our ability during extraordinary events.

This plan is not, in any way, to be considered a substitute for each adult taking personal responsibility for their self-preservation.

Our primary objective is to assure that all Big Canoe Property Owners are aware of the current potential for a world-wide Influenza Pandemic and how to prepare for such an event.

This site is sponsored by a joint effort of the Big Canoe Property Owners Association (POA) and the Homeowners Association of Big Canoe (HOA) working through the Big Canoe Pandemic Planning Committee. The Committee is comprised of representatives from the POA Board, POA Public Safety, the Developer (Big Canoe Company), the Big Canoe Water Company, the Big Canoe Emergency Response Team (BCERT), Big Canoe Chapel , and the community at large.
